Asher B. Durand: Intimate Observations

Asher B. Durand (1796-1886) was one of the leading figures in the art movement known as the Hudson River School, and a great friend of Thomas Cole’s. This catalogue, with full-color illustrations of Durand’s famously poetic paintings of American forests and pastoral landscapes, describes the complex relationship between the two men, each taking turns at being the mentor and teacher for the other.
