River Views of the Hudson River School


Published to accompany the 2009 exhibition at the Thomas Cole Historic site entitled “River Views of the Hudson River School,” this catalogue includes color illustrations of seven paintings from the exhibition, including works by Thomas Cole, Jasper Cropsey, Henry Ary and other masters of 19th-century American landscape painting, plus pictures of other historical artifacts of the period. The text written by Nancy Siegel commemorates the 400thanniversary of Henry Hudson’s 1609 voyage up the Hudson River, and describes the cultural history of the river which was America’s first tourism destination, literary subject, industrial corridor, and artistic inspiration.
